Interessant, was manche Leute so zur Cachesuche für Geräte einsetzen:
Ach ja - der zugehörige Cache ist Sterling Silver
A.J. Vicens schrieb:STERLING — A suspicious package left by someone participating in a Web-based game using Global Positioning Satellite coordinates to hide and find caches of items was destroyed by the Greeley Police bomb squad Thursday near the intersection of Second and Ash Streets.
The package looked like an old ammunition case and was hidden in a bush near the intersection at the southeast corner of the Wells Fargo property.
Police were called about a person leaving a suspicious package in a bush and leaving the scene at 12:09 p.m., according to Sterling Police Chief Roy Breivik. He said he thought the package was suspicious, so he called in for help from the Greeley bomb squad. They brought a remote-controlled robot that picked up the package, took it over to an x-ray device that had been placed in the intersection, and eventually “disrupted” the package, a technical term for destroying it with a concentrated blast of water. The situation lasted for nearly six hours.
“We’re going to look over the material that comes out of the box and try to ID anybody associated with it,” Breivik said. “But beyond that, it doesn’t look criminal.”
Breivik added that there would probably be no charges filed even if the person was found, “but we would like to ID the person and have a little chat with them.”
At the height of the incident Ash Street was closed off from Third Avenue to Front Street, and Second Street was sealed off from the alley between Ash and Main to about halfway south of Ash on Second Street. People in the businesses and homes in that area were asked by police to stay in the buildings and away from their windows. Seven or eight Sterling Police officers secured the scene, Breivik said. He also said five Greeley police officers were there for some of the time, but he and one of his lieutenants were there the whole six hours. Brievik added that the Greeley bomb squad came to Sterling as a mutual-aid situation, and there will be no money paid to them for Thursday’s incident.
A piece of paper that came out of the destroyed ammunition case said that it was part of a game where GPS users set up caches all over the world and share the locations of the caches on the internet, so other GPS users can find the packages and take what’s inside the package. It is unclear exactly what was in the package destroyed by the Greeley bomb squad Thursday, but a small note pad with writing was at least one of the things inside.
